|08:58 am - Not dead yet...|
...but getting there, methinks.
I've been sick again with a stupid fever, but at least this time it lasted just a week or so with lower fever than before. Still, it left me me quite weak and I missed a few mid-May submission deadlines because my head was foggy and couldn't manage any decent polishing & rewrites.
My laptop died AGAIN. I had the fried motherboard replaced around Christmas (and got it back early February) and now the new motherboard got fried too. It's still covered by the guarantee, so they'll be replacing this one too, but there's no telling what will happen after that. As it turned out, this particular model has overheating issues because its ventilation system is very badly designed. For the money it costs, that's more than ridiculus. (I got it on sale for a third of the original price, but still...). So once I get it back, I'll need to get a plan to prevent this from happening again, especially since the guarantee lasts until Christmas. I'll most likely be getting a cooling pad for starters, and we'll see from there.
Right now I'm using a replacement laptop the shop gave me. The keyboard is smaller and I can manage, but it's still frustrating. What was more frustrating, though, was the fact that it came without writing software. It took me a while to get used to the new MS Office the other one had, and now I'v downloaded Open Office and I'm trying to get used to that too. And all the while I'm missing So.Very.Much my old PC with my trusted 2003 Word.
Amidst all this, I realised I have forgotten how to format a story for submission. I had to look everything up, and changes that were done in a few minutes now take a whole lot longer because I can't effing find where everything is. *headdesk*
And I don't even have a kitty around to help me....
Current Mood: tired

*Hugs* Because it sounds like you need them.
Open office works pretty well, especially for the price. ;) I put it on my kids' computers and they don't have much problem with it (other than the fact that their school computers are all Macs). I hope you can figure it out well enough to get by until the laptop gets back.
Sending kitty whisker kisses from my kitty, Larry.
Thank you. Larry too. (duh)
I hope I'll get used to it too. It's not as if I'll be doing NaNo or anything of this magnitude, it's just another thing on a long list that add to me not being comfortable, from garden furniture as my desk (argh that chair) to a cat-less office space. Gods forbid Miss Kitty enters the den and disrupts the bf's gaming...

Oh dear! Reminds me of cute a post I saw once...
Hope my html isn't too rusty and you can see and get a chuckle out of it.
Lol. I can see it just fine.
The bf actually loves Miss Kitty. She house-broke him quite easily and has him wrapped around her little paw. As long as she doesn't get near his PC, that is. It's quite interesting to see a 50 yo man throw a fit when a kitten enters office space because she might move the cables/router/speakers/whatever.
Of course, said kitten is now closer to the size of a hog, but still...
He obviously doesn't understand that cats are designed to get everywhere!
Poor guy had only lived with d*gs until Miss Kitty came along...
That's one hell of a design flaw!
I know... At least I had coughed up the extra euros for an extended guarantee, so two new motherboards were on them. I'm researching ways to deal with this once it expires in December...
