|05:02 pm - WTF, Universe? |
It's snowing. Not in downtown Athens, but most of the outskirts are snowed in. In my area, there's just freezing cold. I had to go out briefly, to get meds and noms for the kittehs, and return a cage to the vet, and I couldn't feel my hands and feet after five minutes.
Of course, the rascals keep reminding me of my door(wo)man duties. OOOUT! IIIIN! *sigh* At least, my injured calico, (formerly known as Beba, now officially named Fatima) is doing much better. Her legs are awkward and not fully functional, but she can stand on her own now and take a few steps. She's making friends with little Shorty Wormbutt, who's about seven months old now, and still looks like a kitten. At one time, I think he tried to mount her, since it's *that* time for him (pre-snipsnip). It was hilarious because she's three times his size and fixed. Poor Shorty got smacked across the bathroom. And, yes, he seems set to try again.
Writing-wise: like pulling teeth. My current story is set in early 16th century Barbary Coast, and I had to research Muslim traditions from that era for every other frakking line: currency, clothing, ship types, slave trade, prostitution, talismans, curses and it goes on. It did make for a fascinating read, but it's too distracting and kills my momentum. And now I have to write a fight/mutiny scene aboard a (sort of) pirate ship. *headdesk* Can I just throw in a kraken instead to get them all killed?
Current Mood: frustrated
I am beginning to wonder if the world is tilting on its axis. We had plus 8c on Sunday. This is January, location Alberta, which is high elevation, land-locked, Rockies to the left and nothing between us and the North Pole except a few scraggy bits of tundra. WE should have the snow, not you. WE should be sitting at around -26c in a mild winter.
Glad to hear Fatima is getting better, and that she feels well enough to bat Shorty out the way.
Good luck with the story. I hope you get the momentum back.
Yes, the weather has been ridiculous. This is the Mediterranean! We don't like snow! *sigh*
And thanks. Shorty is curled up on my lap, purring to build up my momentum.
Of course, purring has the exact opposite effect. Especially when combined with farting. :/
BTW, as soon as I saw "tundra", I got the mental image of a sleigh led by a bunch of huge Main Coon-ish kettehs...
Generally the recent winters have also been mild, with the occasional week of ridiculous cold. As is, snowing in Crete and Knossos covered in snow..And by ship I assume you mean a sea vessel? Since, well, you've been writing about other ships quite a lot. :p
The ship setting, or the future setting? I can understand the occasional necessity of unfamiliar places to set a scene, but if it's not something you enjoy writing, why there?
Just curious. ;)
...and never mind that I don't exactly enjoy writing ship setting myself, and look what I'm writing.
I'm SO pulling a Kraken ex Machina on them. :p
And feel free to borrow my own Kraken ex Machina. Just treat it with kindness. It's the kittehs favorite foo-, um, I mean, play mate.
